Inside Market Square Arena, 18,000 fans waited through the opening acts as anticipation steadily built. When the lights finally dimmed and the familiar strains of “2001” filled the arena, the tension in the room was unmistakable. Then came “See See Rider,” and with Elvis’s entrance, the audience erupted.

Compared to the more troubled performances filmed earlier that week, Indianapolis revealed a more focused and energized Elvis.
